Project info

The Fairmont Empress hotel in Victoria, BC is an iconic hotel, and a destination for many. The harbour-front hotel offers 464 beautifully appointed guest rooms and suites, as well as expansive meeting and wedding spaces adjacent to the conference centre.

We were selected as one of the contractors for the hotel’s major restoration project in 2016 and our scope consisted of electrical, security, structured cabling, building controls, and audio visual work. Our Technology team installed the data network throughout the hotel. Being a century-old building, cable runs were a particular challenge for this project but we completed 134 drop combinations for data and telephone and added several new network racks throughout the hotel. Our security team added seven new video surveillance cameras including two multi-sensors and re-located several existing cameras, integrating them into the existing video monitoring software. We also performed audio visual work on a number of rooms throughout the hotel.

As the Fairmont Empress was operational throughout the project, we coordinated our work around staff and guests schedules to reduce disruption.

Project info

Parq is one of the largest private hospitality developments in BC. It features two luxury hotels (JW Marriott Parq Vancouver and the Douglas, an Autograph Collection Hotel); eight restaurants and lounges; 60,000 square feet event and meeting space; a 30,000 square feet park; and a casino containing 600 slot machines, 74 table games, poker rooms, and 11 VIP salons designed for private gaming.

We provided electrical construction services for this new build project, which included the installation of interior and exterior luminaires, lighting control systems throughout the six floors of the podium levels, a fire alarm system tied into BC Place, high voltage feeds and all required electrical distribution, and an underfloor duct raceway system for the gaming areas.

For electrical distribution, we provided 4 new generators—2 paralleled at 1.5MW and 2 paralleled at 1.75MW—and 4 unit substations. We also provided conduit infrastructure for all technology, using a number of innovative methods on this new build project including Lean methodology and using 3D modeling and CAD coordination.
