Project info

Spanning 14,800 sq. ft. across two storeys, the River District Energy Centre serves as the central hub of a low-carbon energy network. This facility delivers thermal energy for space heating and hot water to thousands of homes and businesses in one of Vancouver’s fastest-growing neighborhoods. By replacing traditional gas boilers and onsite electric heating with thermal energy systems, this energy centre intends to cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% annually.

OUR SCOPE

Our team provided electrical and technology solutions, including electrical and power distribution, fire alarm, lighting, and data and security rough-in. This project features mass timber construction and houses complex mechanical rooms that require precision planning and coordination. To achieve this, we utilized our project planning services and virtual design capabilities to streamline installation and ensure accuracy.

A key feature of this project was the installation of a high-voltage unit substation transformer, which integrates high-voltage primary equipment, a power transformer, and low-voltage secondary switchgear into a compact assembly—optimizing space and ensuring seamless electrical and mechanical coordination.
