2026 NRCA Awards - Electrical Contractor of the Year & Excellence in Safety

Houle Wins NRCA Electrical Contractor of the Year & Safety Award

Houle Recognized with Two Awards at the 2026 NRCA Constructing Excellence Awards

We’re proud to share that Houle has been recognized with two major honours at the Northern Regional Construction Association (NRCA) Constructing Excellence Awards.

This year, Houle received:

  • Electrical Contractor of the Year (Over $10M) for our work on the Site C Clean Energy Project – Generating Station and Spillway (GSS) scope
  • Excellence in Safety Award, recognizing our continued commitment to safe work practices across British Columbia

Being named Electrical Contractor of the Year highlights the strength of our technical expertise, collaboration, and execution on one of British Columbia’s most significant infrastructure projects. Just as importantly, earning a consecutive Excellence in Safety Award reinforces that how we work is just as important as what we build.

Powering Clean Energy at Site C

The completion of the Generating Station and Spillways (GSS) scope marked a major milestone for the BC Hydro Site C Clean Energy Project, enabling electricity generation by converting the mechanical energy of turbines into clean, renewable power.

With all generating units now operational, Site C has the capacity to produce more than 1,100 megawatts of electricity—enough to power approximately 500,000 homes annually. The project increases BC Hydro’s total electricity supply by eight per cent, strengthening energy reliability while supporting the province’s growing demand for clean power.

Our Electrical Scope at Generating Station & Spillways

As part of the GSS contract, Houle delivered a comprehensive industrial electrical scope, including:

  • Industrial electrical systems and power distribution
  • Backup power, lighting, and structured cabling
  • Permanent grounding, embedded conduits, and duct banks for the entire generating station
  • Highbay lighting in the Main Service Bay

In total, our teams installed:

  • 35,000+ metres of 350MCM bare copper
  • 17,000+ metres of 4/0 bare copper
  • 27,000 grounding connections

Houle also led the design‑build delivery of the temporary power system, which provided reliable construction power throughout the project’s five‑year duration. This system included:

  • 25 × 25 kV unit substations with metered disconnects
  • 5 km of overhead 25 kV lines
  • 4 km of 25 kV Teck cable
  • 9 pole‑top transformer setups
  • Primary and secondary cabling, plus fibre‑optic communications

Commitment to Safety and Collaboration

These awards reflect the dedication of our teams across BC who lead with accountability, prioritize safety, and consistently deliver high‑quality electrical work—while looking out for one another both on site and beyond.
