The McArthurGlen Designer Outlet in Richmond, BC brings European styling and high-end brands to Greater Vancouver. During the mall’s initial construction, we worked with the owners alongside Austria-based contractor Strabag International to design and deliver the electrical construction and technology solutions. 

We provided installation services for lighting, service and distribution, data systems, security systems, structured cabling, public address, and people and car counting systems on this project. We also provided the tenant fit-out for the fire alarm system. Our Technology teams were able to coordinate the integration of all these systems, from design to installation and turnover.

We overcame several challenges on this project, including a tight schedule and substantial changes. We scaled our labour resources and achieved successful internal scheduling and cooperation with other trades to deliver the full scope on time.

Tsawwassen Mills Mall is a fully enclosed shopping mall composed of 200 retail units. As the largest shopping mall to be built in Canada since 2009, Tsawwassen Mills Mall has a unique mix of premium fashion brands, factory outlets, restaurants, and first-to-market retailers.

On this project, we provided the base building’s full scope of electrical, lighting, security, and structured cabling services. We fitted out 21 electrical rooms which feed distribution to 200 tenants and installed the fire alarm for all tenants. 

Our main challenge on this project was the sheer size of the mall. The shopping centre, with a total footprint of 1.2 million square feet (equivalent to 80 hockey rinks), is 1km long. To save on time, we had to ensure that all materials and site facilities were set up to maximize productivity and minimize travel time. 

We also serviced hundreds of electrical changes during the two-year span of the project, with a majority of the changes occurring during the last year. To manage these changes, we established careful coordination with the general contractor, consultants, trades, and owner.

Woodgrove Centre is Vancouver Island’s largest shopping centre, attracting close to 6 million visitors annually. Located in the harbour city of Nanaimo, BC, the mall features over 724,000 square feet of retail space and over 140 stores and services. 

We delivered a full scope of electrical construction and structured cabling for the mall’s 2016 renovation. Our work included the major removal and replacement of lighting, installing new floor boxes for power and data throughout the mall, and adding exterior canopies. 

Throughout the project, we successfully utilized Lean Construction methodology to manage inventory during the project. Materials were set up in large mobile job boxes that were easily transported to different areas of the mall to streamline production.

As the mall remained operational throughout the renovation, we coordinated our work around the operational requirements of the shopping centre. We remained committed to working night shifts for a year, which allowed us to meet the schedule and maintain excellent relations with the general contractor and owner.
