EV Charger at Lewis Centre

Mid-Island EV Network

  • 28 EV Stations Installed
  • 15 Communities

Projects / Institutional

Project info

This collaborative multi-year project, organized between Mid-Island communities, is building a Level 2 charging network across Central Vancouver Island. This initiative was developed in support of BC’s Clean Transportation goal of reducing carbon emissions.

In addition to addressing environmental concerns, this venture will also increase tourism by EV drivers to the region, ease the transition to EV’s for local residents, and support economic development.

The EV chargers are located in nine districts between Nanaimo and Tofino: 6th Street Courtenay, Bowen, Comox Community Centre, Cumberland Cultural Centre, Lantzville, Lewis Centre, Nanaimo City Hall, Oliver Woods, and Small Craft Harbour Tofino.

We provided turn-key solutions to install 27 dual-head and one single-head Level 2 EV charging equipment. This included all electrical wiring, trenching, testing, configuration, and commissioning.

An Electric Vehicle charging at the Victoria International Airport with our Sun Country EV Charger

Victoria International Airport – EV Charging Station

  • 6 level 2 charging stations
  • 600:120/208V 3Ø 75kVA transformer
  • 400 Amp panel board kiosk

Projects / Institutional

Project info

Victoria International Airport supports over 1.7 million passengers per year, and after identifying opportunities to serve those passengers better, they decided to proceed with the electric vehicle charging project. This project gives drivers a complementary quick charge when picking up passengers from the airport, modernizing the airport’s offerings and better serving their visitors.

Our team was brought in and completed the following: new kiosk feeders 3c #2AWG installed within existing ducts; installation of a new concrete pad for a new 600:120/208V 3Ø 75kVA transformer and 400 Amp panel board kiosk; a scan and x-ray of the asphalt in the proposed trenching routes to the EV chargers; installation of six Sun Country EV40 level 2 charging stations and pedestals; and seismic engineering schedules S-B & S-C for the transformer kiosk and EV chargers.

Fraser Regional Correctional Centre Electric Vehicle Charging Stations.

Fraser Regional Correctional Centre – EV Charging Stations

  • 6 Charging Heads
  • 3 2P40A Circuits
  • 2 Underground Concrete Vaults

Projects / Institutional

Project info

Looking to modernize, Fraser Regional Correctional Centre (FRCC) in Maple Ridge commissioned our team to install EV charging stations at their facility–which was built in 1990.

As the general contractor, we collaborated with several sub-trades (civil, coring, etc.) and coordinated the required permits and security clearances to break ground at the facility. We also assisted in the electric vehicle (EV) charging station design alterations based on usage site condition requirements before the project began.

To complete the installation, our team: verified capacity in distribution (using existing metering) for three new load-sharing FLO Core+ EV charging units; routed three new 2P40A circuits via new underground conduit; installed two underground concrete vaults; routed and installed a lighting circuit to new lighting bollards; routed conduit and installed FLO network gateway; and verified the lighting control integration (with existing controls) and commissioned six charging heads with FRCC and FLO.

Electric Vehicle Charging Station installed in Nanaimo for Petro Canada's Electric Highway.

Petro Canada Electric Highway – Fast Charge EV Station

  • 600A 3-phase service
  • Supports 200 kW charges
  • Fast charge

Projects / Commercial

Project info

Suncor-owned Petro Canada built a network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations from Nova Scotia to British Columbia called “Canada’s Electric Highway.” Each charging station is located 200 km-250 km apart, and in British Columbia, Houle was the installation partner of choice for their first fast-charge EV station in Nanaimo, BC.

Our scope of work to install the charging station included: connecting a dedicated BC. Hydro 600-ampere, 600-volt, three-phase service to the two electric vehicle chargers, supplying the underground electrical equipment, 920V DC wiring and fibre-optic connections, lighting, emergency shutdown systems, intercom, cameras and wiring for additional chargers.
A couple of months later, we completed our second Petro-Canada EV station at Patricia Bay Highway in Victoria, BC.

The Stack Base Build

The Stack—1133 MELVILLE

  • 580,000 Square Feet
  • 5 Parking Levels
  • 37 Storeys

Projects / Commercial

Project info

The Stack at 1133 Melville is recognized for its unique stacked-box look and is Vancouver’s tallest commercial tower at 37 storeys. With 554,640 leasable square feet and five levels of below-grade parking, it’s an ambitious project with big goals.

The building is designed to achieve LEED® Platinum standards and is the first building to receive the CAGBC’s Zero Carbon Building – Design Standard certification. As a design-assist partner delivering a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) project, we used innovative solutions to drive collaboration and positively impact the project’s budget, schedule, and overall project execution.

We worked directly with our in-house technology and project planning teams to provide both electrical and technology solutions for this commercial project—including electrical construction, lighting, security, and structured cabling.
