Clayton Community Centre has been an incredible addition to community life in Surrey, BC. Designed to facilitate arts and culture programming and various recreational activities, this unique facility includes music studios, recording studios and a rehearsal hall as well as a gymnasium, fitness centre, and library.
This building will also be the first community centre to achieve Passive House certification in North America and Canada’s largest Passive House facility to date. Passive House methodology uses super insulation combined with a complex ventilation system to drastically reduce a building’s energy consumption. Buildings made to this strict energy-based standard consume up to 90% less heating and cooling energy than conventional buildings, which in this case contributes to a reduced carbon footprint and operating costs for the city.
Through this project, we had the opportunity to exemplify a diverse set of services. While taking on the main electrical scope, including fire alarm and battery backup as well as lighting, we also provided a full technology scope that includes security, structured cabling, and audio visual components. For lighting, we installed 1,801 light fixtures including 63 7’x7’x7′ triangle LED lights designed to simulate daylight. Our security scope included access control, intrusion, code blue, and video management system. We installed shielded CAT6a to future-proof the building for increased network speeds, along with a DAS system for emergency response. For audio visual, we installed user device-friendly interfaces and digital reservation displays for each room and high-end speakers throughout the premise.
