Located in Sechelt, BC, St. Mary’s Hospital is a 58,125 square feet addition to the older St. Mary’s Hospital and Extended Care Lodge. The addition includes new larger emergency and radiology departments, intensive care rooms, and a new labour and delivery unit. Targeting LEED Gold certification, St. Mary’s Hospital was designed with the goal of becoming North America’s first carbon-neutral hospital.
Houle was an instrumental subcontractor from the beginning of construction, assisting the electrical contractor with the conduit layouts and design prior to any site work. Houle’s building automation team worked very closely with the mechanical contractor to lay out all of the building automation systems using Schneider’s Andover Controls system. Houle’s networks team completed four communication rooms including 900+ Cat6 network drops, OM3 multimode and OS2 single-mode backbone, and RG6 CATV cabling (100+ drops).
Houle was also the chosen contractor for all intercom and public address communications, building management system controls, networked wander prevention, staff wireless duress systems, and code blue integration. Houle integrated the new facility to mate with the systems in the older hospital and Totem Lodge Extended Care building. The communications system had complex interfaces to integrate with the nurse call and overhead code blue voice messaging system and access control and panic alarm systems.
Houle worked closely with the facility operators to design and build a custom-made patient entertainment control system with new Samsung LED televisions and a HMI webserver control system. The facility now centrally manages all patient entertainment TV requests and individually controls each television outlet.
