Located 135km north of Revelstoke, BC, the Mica Creek Dam is a hydroelectric dam that spans the Columbia River. It is operated by BC Hydro. Houle was responsible for the base building and grounding of the Powerhouse Expansion Project at the dam. This included large grounding scope, multiple custom built distribution tie-ins to the existing Powerhouse, and design engineering of the Pyrotenax heat trace (snow melting) system on the roof and all walkway areas.
With many revisions to the building ground layout, Houle needed to be adaptable while still completing the work on a tight schedule. The extreme weather conditions also posed a challenge as Houle had to work around copious amounts of snow and ice on a daily basis
