The Fairview Container Terminal is a dedicated intermodal facility that provides a high-velocity gateway for transpacific container trade. It was the first dedicated intermodal (ship to rail) container terminal in North America when it began operations in 2007.

The Fairview Phase II North Expansion project consisted of a berth expansion, wharf  upgrade, mooring dolphin, and container stacking and storage yards. All medium voltage, low voltage, and low tension electrical systems within the facility required additions and upgrades to accommodate such a vast expansion. Houle performed the electrical subcontract under Fraser River Pile & Dredge Inc. Scope included, but was not limited to:

  • substation upgrades
  • relocation and installation of new Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) radiation portals
  • relocation and installation of new 150’ high highmast lighting systems for the terminal
  • new medium voltage feeder systems for the gantry cranes
  • relocation and installation of new medium voltage specialized Cavotec shore power systems
  • major fibre optic system upgrade for communication and lighting specialized lighting control

The project was a major undertaking with work meticulously completed to ensure safe and reliable electrical systems. Work had to be performed in stages to allow full operation of the facility without interruptions.
