Canexus is a chemical manufacturing and handling company that produces sodium chlorate and chlor-alkali products largely for the pulp and paper and water treatment industries. It has been serving customers for more than half a century. One of its plants in North Vancouver, BC is a complex industrial facility with extensive instrumentation and PLC Controls. In the winter of 2012, Houle completed three small projects for the North Vancouver plant: the RIO-3 project, the Electric Heat Trace project, and the Plant Air Dryer project.
The projects’ scope included distribution, input/output cabinets, cabling, cable trays, heat tracing, pipe insulation, PLC’s, and instrumentation. The instrumentation work included instrument wiring and installation, calibration, and pre-operational testing.
The project required many heavy and complex equipment relocation moves on tight shutdown schedules in and around an operating plant. There were extensive QA/QC procedures to ensure that all changes were incorporated in the final installation and all equipment was installed, tested, and commissioned to ensure proper and safe operation. There were also constant changes to the design of the project.
Houle had a perfect safety record on this project and met every milestone and turnover date.
“I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude to your organization for the outstanding work that Houle Electric has provided for our construction project. Our project shutdown and project completion I feel would have been in grave jeopardy if not for Houle Electric stepping in and filling the void. Houle Electric has shown the professionalism and expertise that was needed…”
