Canadian patients depend on the Canadian Blood Services to manage a safe, secure, and cost-effective blood system. The Canadian Blood Services’ British Columbia’s head office is located on Oak Street. All the donated blood collected in the province is processed and tested at the Oak Street facility.
To protect the Canadian blood quality, the Canadian Blood Services contracted Houle to provide an accurate Building Management System. A high degree of reliability was required. An early warning system for blood products was needed to control the temperature of stored blood.
TAC/Andover Controls was chosen as the product partner for the data acquisition system. The system is part of the nation-wide program to update the existing monitoring system. It is networked across Canada through the Canadian Blood Services’ virtual private network for archiving in Ottawa. By utilizing Reliable Controls’ HVAC systems and TAC/Andover Controls blood product monitoring, Houle provided the capability for facility staff to monitor and manage the control system via a graphical interface at the operators workstation or though the web on their Intranet. This system was also integrated into the Canadian Blood Services’ on-call paging system for system alarms response.
