Project info

BC Hydro’s Site C Clean Energy Project will be a third dam and hydroelectric generating station on the Peace River in Northeast B.C. It will provide 1,100 MW of capacity, and produce about 5,100 GWh of electricity each year — enough energy to power the equivalent of approximately 450,000 homes per year in BC.

Our scope for the Spillways and Generating Station includes the supply and installation of all permanent grounding, embedded conduits and duct banks for the entire generating station, and powerhouse high-bay lighting in the Main Service Bay. Our scope also consists of the design-build of the temporary power system required to provide construction power for all the equipment and material to AFDE and other major contractors on the site for the five-year duration of the project. As of 2022, we have installed 5km of overhead 25kV lines, 25 25kV unit substations, nine 500kV pole-top transformer setups, and fibre optic cable for communications.

BC Hydro Buckley Bay Substation Project Site

BC Hydro Buckley Bay Substation

Project info

Located in the Comox Valley area, the Buckley Bay Substation was built to help offset the heavy electricity loads on nearby substations in Courtenay, Comox, and Qualicum Beach, while increasing safer power capacity for the local community.

Our team delivered all civil installation, electrical construction, and power and communications (P&C) installation for the new 138kV – 25kV substation. The extreme winter conditions added a challenge to the project, however, we were able to overcome it through effective communication between our project team and the other trades on-site.

Project info

With the increasing demand for power for the fastest growing community in BC, the city of Surrey knew that a new electrical substation was in order to help get power to homes and businesses in a safe and reliable way.

Our scope was to install a new, open-air substation, which included two transformers, substation protection and control equipment, and two new distribution feeder sections. Our team installed a 230-25-25kV transformer, four 230kV circuit breakers and 16 230kV breaker disconnect switches, two 230kV line switches and two 230kV line terminations, two 230kV motor operated transformer disconnect switches, four motorized 25kV disconnect switches, four 25kV GIS feeder sections with equipment for seven feeders per section, and associated 25kV equipment in two separate buildings.

Despite various project delays, we collaborated and had open communication with the client and our project team to reassign resources as needed to meet the changing schedule.
